Governments often begin their carbon pricing journey by targeting sectors such as energy and heavy industry, where emissions are concentrated and relatively easier to measure and regulate. However, as jurisdictions gain experience and confidence in implementing carbon pricing policies, the need to expand these policies to additional sectors becomes apparent. This expansion is critical for achieving broader emissions coverage and meeting ambitious climate targets.
Expanding carbon pricing to sectors such as transport, waste, and aviation presents unique opportunities and challenges. These sectors often have more diffuse emissions sources, complex regulatory environments, and diverse stakeholder groups. This online workshop will explore the practicalities of expanding carbon pricing policies to these sectors, drawing on the experiences of GCPC Partners and affiliated organizations.
