The Global Carbon Pricing Challenge (GCPC) was announced by Canada during COP26. Since then, the GCPC has grown into an international initiative, steered by a growing number of Partner and Friend jurisdictions.
Climate change is a pressing reality that demands immediate and collective action. It is crucial for countries to unite and confront this global challenge head-on.
The challenge
The Global Carbon Pricing Challenge (GCPC) is a partnership of jurisdictions committed to carbon pricing, supported by key international organizations, through which expertise can be shared and received. The GCPC has a collective goal of covering 60% of global emissions with carbon pricing by 2030.
Fostering collaboration
Through the GCPC network, collaboration can flourish on an international scale, as Partners and Friends come together to share best practices for effective carbon pricing. The Challenge is a leader-driven initiative that sets concrete targets for carbon pricing coverage to drive action and greater ambition. It strives to improve understanding of the role of carbon pricing in decarbonization, its flexibility and adaptability as a policy, and its ability to support multiple objectives including economic development and equity. The Challenge supports the expansion of carbon pricing through high-level dialogue and technical exchanges to accelerate the implementation of new pricing systems.
