Image On 27 February 2025, the GCPC held its 6th online workshop on carbon pricing in the power sector. Experts from the World Bank and Vietnam shared experiences and research on policy design, effectiveness, and emissions reduction in electricity generation.

Image On 17 December 2024, the GCPC hosted its 5th online workshop on carbon pricing across jurisdictional levels. Experts from governments and partner organisations discussed implementation experiences and the interaction of subnational, national, and regional carbon pricing schemes, including the EU ETS.

On 30 October 2024, the GCPC held a workshop on integrating greenhouse gas removals into carbon pricing systems. Participants discussed how some jurisdictions already include removals while others plan to. Strong rules are needed to ensure integrity while enabling negative emissions to support net-zero goals.

Image On 28 August 2024, the GCPC convened experts to explore crediting and offsetting in domestic carbon pricing. With over 45 participants, the workshop focused on how such mechanisms can support policy design while maintaining credibility and effectiveness.

Image As the world intensifies its efforts to combat climate change, the expansion of carbon pricing mechanisms has become crucial. By recognising the economic and environmental benefits of these policies, stakeholders are now assessing progress and exploring future scenarios for carbon pricing.

Image On 26 June 2024, the GCPC convened experts to discuss effective use of carbon pricing revenues. The workshop explored EU, international, and Canadian approaches, highlighting transparency, climate investment, and household rebates as key to strengthening policy impact and public acceptance.

Image The GCPC’s first workshop examined expanding carbon pricing to the agri-food sector. Experts highlighted policy options, including taxation and incentives, alongside challenges in measuring emissions, emphasizing the need for effective, balanced approaches to reduce impacts and meet climate targets.

Image Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing the international community. A broad range of policy instruments can be used to curb carbon emissions, and economic instruments such as taxes and emissions trading are critical elements of any comprehensive mitigation strategy.

Image At COP28, the Global Carbon Pricing Challenge gained new momentum as countries and organizations strengthened cooperation on carbon pricing. The initiative aims to expand carbon pricing coverage to 60% of global emissions by 2030 while supporting emerging systems worldwide.
